On 11th May Understanding Diabetes Event was held in Pollokshields Community Centre. The event was presented in Collaboration with South Asian Health Foundation. The event was opened by Ambreen Azam Community Pharmacist.
Dr David McGrane who is Diabetes Consultant in Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. He discussed how South Asian Communities are more prone to Diabetes. He also spoke on the importance of Exercise. He added that before he came to this event he jogged for 30 minutes and he stressed all of us must exercise.
Dr Kashif Ali who is General Practitioner in one of the Health Centres in Glasgow shared his experience as a General Practitioner and gave advice how to cook healthy food at a reasonable cost.
We were also joined by Allama Shabir Rabbani Sahib who is an Imam at a local Mosque who spoke about Diabetes, Ramadhan and Islamic Perspective.
There was Question and Answer opportunity for delegates. The delegates asked if there is a possibility of arranging Healthy Cookery Classes for the community. TThe event was concluded with refreshments
